My baby girl, Gracie.

I had to say goodbye to Gracie yesterday morning. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but we're thinking her kidneys just started shutting down over the weekend. She just looked miserable and like she didn't feel good at all. It was the hardest thing to say goodbye to her. She was such a great dog. The kids could wrestle with her, get in her face even while she was eating just so they could give her a kiss and she let them. Usually she would kiss them back.
One of the funniest things she used to do was after she was done "using the backyard facilities", she would ring the back doorbell to let us know she was ready to come in the house. I just figured she jumped up, rang the bell, and then sit and wait for us to let her in. Then one day I was in the front yard for some reason and I saw her ringing the doorbell. She actually would stand up on her hind legs, rest her one paw on the door frame and then ring the bell with her other front paw. It was so funny-- and amazing that she knew to do that. I'll never forget one Sunday morning we were getting ready for church, and we had been kind of slow to let her in. All of a sudden we hear this "ding ding ding ding ding...." She was ringing the bell over and over like "are you going to let me in already!??!?!" It was hilarious.
She used to "sit" in my lap. She was too big to sit in my lap; she got up to 85 lbs. She either didn't know she wasn't a lap dog or didn't care, but she would always try to sit in my lap. She always fell out of my lap but Gracie tried over and over. I'm going to miss that!
I miss Gracie so much. I'm so lucky I had such a great dog. She is going to be missed.

It is so hard to lose a pet, especially one that is so well-loved. How wonderful that you have so many great memories of Gracie! Love and prayers, Jen

Hey, Lisa, this is Jen's Mom (I've heard lots about you over the years you and Jen have been "pen pals"). We lost our dog "Hank" just a little over a year ago. It was the hardest thing we have ever had to do so we sympathize with what you are going through. Hank was our son Andy's 6th birthday present and he is 23 years old today (11/12). Dogs can somehow be closer than any friend and you have such good memories. We'll be praying for you. Linda
